Why did you decide to study in Japan?

I decided to study in Japan because the Japanese universities are among the best ones in the world, therefore I wanted to get a doctoral degree from a Japanese university.

How was your life in Japan?

Life in Japan is in a way easy and complicated at the same time. Japan is a very safe and organized country, I’ve never felt in danger or lost even in the early days of arrival. The complicated part is to get used to a world where you don’t have direct contact with people that were part of your life such as family and close friends. That can give a sensation of isolation sometimes. The Nikkei Scholarship and the NSFA provide all the necessary support for the new students to adapt to their new life in Japan. NFSA members become a family almost instantly. This new family (that can become your family too) engage on a variety of extracurricular activities whether for leisure, learning, sport activities, and even volunteer activities. No other scholarship in the world provide this kind of support to their scholars. This is an enormous detail that can be a key factor, so you can adapt to a new life style, dedicate, give your best, and conclude your studies in a foreign country.

Tell us about your past study or research.

Currently I’m developing materials for neural stem cells transplantation for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders.

Did your consciousness as a Nikkei change in any way through studying in Japan?

Have had the opportunity to study in Japan opened my eyes to see that having cultural influences of two very discrepant nations like Brazil and Japan is gratifying. I believe that a Nikkei has the privilege of making the combined use of the best cultural characteristics of both Japan and their home country to overcome professional and personal problems and challenges.

Tell us about your plan after graduation.

I’m a postdoctoral fellow researcher at University of Sao Paulo, my goal is to become a Professor at this university.
